Tyne Tees Toppings
Milton Keynes Roller Dance Club traveled up North for the annual Tyne
Tees Tournament at Newton Aycliffe. The dedicated band of dancers competed
against strong skaters from around the country and brought home a good haul
of trophies and medals.
Adana Roberts collected the trophy for her original set pattern (OSP)
dance in a tough group of older and more experienced skaters. Gemma Frith
performed two dances choreographed for her with mixed results. She competed
in the senior categories alongside the British Champion and was pipped into
fourth place in the OSP and took a well deserved silver medal in the
Creative Dance contest. Ross Frith performed his Pinocchio novelty
free routine to finish fifth.
Abigail Ashton–Brown topped the junior solo dance contest and
Gemma Frith came second. Ross Frith came second in the newcomers
dance event – a great start for a new skater. Phillipa Rosewell, in
her second competition, secured a second place in her age group of novice
dancers. Adana Roberts met stiff competition in the preliminary dance
category to finish in fourth place.
Gemma Frith and James Foster won the junior dance couples
event with Anne Kiss and Graham Stiles in third place.
Abigail Ashton–Brown and Gemma Frith skated together in the
senior duo event to collect the silver medals.
Abigail Ashton–Brown, James Foster and Gemma Frith teamed up
to a second place in the senior dance teams event. David Briggs, Anne
Kiss and Graham Stiles were third in the adult dance team
competition. Adana Roberts helped another club’s team to a silver
medal.

Hopefuls
Milton Keynes
Roller Dance Club
was represented at the British Championships by its keenest skaters. The
Championships were held by the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating (FARS)
at a new venue in Hayward Heath. There are a number of different age groups
from Cadet, Youth, Junior to Senior as well as Classics.
Abigail Ashton-Brown
competed in the Senior Solo Dance and finished in a highly commendable sixth
place. She performed two compulsory dances and lay in seventh place before
executing her impressive free dance pulling her up to her sixth place.
Gemma Frith
moved up from Youth last year to Junior this year. After her
two compulsory dances she was in ninth place but her personal free dance
lifted her to sixth place as a final position.
Adana Robert
competed in her first year in Cadet after last year in the
Elementary group. She had two compulsory dances followed by an original set
pattern dance (OSP) which resulted in a total placing of seventh which is an
improvement over last year.

Roller Dance Club are also delighted to report that two of their former
skaters were on the rostrum in the Senior Dance Couples Championships.
Carina Storkey with her partner Nicholas Loader won the contest very
convincingly and will hope to improve on their performance in the European
Championships later in the year. Becky Evans and Nicholas Perry were
an impressive third place in only their first year of skating together.

Accomplished
Milton Keynes Roller Dance Club
had a great visit to the annual competition held by the Moonrakers club in
Newbury, Berks. Despite limited notice, the skaters worked very hard to
produce some pleasing results.
Louise Matthews and Adana Roberts topped the novelty couples
dance contest with their striking costumes as Pinnochio and the Puppet
Master while Hannah and Olivia Davies, with more formal
ballroom dance outfits, were rewarded with the silver medals.
Olivia Davies, Gemma Frith and Adana Roberts with solo,
duo and trio combinations to lift the super dance team trophy. Hannah
Davies, Louise Matthews and Adana Roberts each performed
an individual dance with their total positions counting to a total team
result with yielded a second place.
Gemma Frith competed in the hardest solo dance contest – the senior
standard group – and was placed second. Adana Roberts was second in
her elementary standard contest.
Shining in
Soham
Milton Keynes
Roller Dance Club
continued its season with a trip to a favourite competition in Soham,
Cambridgeshire. With a bright sunny day, this was reflected in some
sparkling results.
Michelle Taylor
scored the first win in her age group of novice dancers. Olivia Davies
collected a bronze medal in the older age group ahead of Nikki Taylor
in fourth. Philippa Rosewell finished third in the youngest age
group, an excellent result in only her second competition.
Louise Matthews won the junior solo dance contest and Hannah Davies
was second, skating to a higher standard. Jennifer Wallace topped
the senior solo event with Gemma Frith taking the bronze medal.
In the
Original Set Pattern (OSP) dance contest, Jennifer Wallace accepted
her second trophy for her stunning performance and Gemma Frith was
second.
Anne Kiss
and Graham Stiles, competing in the adult dance couples competition,
were rewarded with silver medals.
Hannah and
Olivia Davies were gold medallists in the novice duo dance event and
Michelle and Nikki Taylor were awarded the silver medals.
Louise Matthews and Adana Roberts were winners in the junior
duos. Gemma Frith and Jennifer Wallace joined up for second
place in the senior duo competition.

and Nikki Taylor were just out of the medals in fourth place.

place team in the adult dance team category.
Victory in Kent
Milton Keynes Roller Dance Club
traveled to Gillingham in Kent for the first National competition of the
year - the Spring Solo Dance competitions of the Federation of Artistic
Roller Skating. The small squad of keen skaters did exceedingly well.
Becky Evans did the best in the compulsory solo dance competitions
where she won the bronze standard category. Adana Roberts was awarded
a bronze medal for her compulsory dances at the elementary level. Abigail
Ashton–Brown was fifth in the senior contest and Gemma Frith was
sixth. Anne Kiss, representing the adult category, was ninth.
Adana Roberts finished highest in the original set pattern (OSP)
dance events when she lifted the trophy for her level. Becky Evans
was fifth in the bronze OSP contest. Gemma Frith improved on her
compulsory place with fifth in the senior OSP competition.
Abigail Ashton–Brown and Gemma Frith took home bronze medals
for the performance together in the senior duo dance challenge.
Overall, these result gave the club a national placing of eighth for this
meeting.
News From Newbury
Milton Keynes Roller Dance Club
began 2005 with its usual visit to the West Berks club competition in
Newbury. The New Year started with some excellent results for the club
skaters.
The solo dancers achieved the best placing. Becky Evans won the
junior solo dance contest. Louise Matthews topped the rostrum with
her first place in the preliminary standard event. Adana Roberts
collected a gold medal for her solo performance in the elementary standard
solo competition. Nikki Taylor completed the solo trophy winners in
her group of novice dancers with Olivia Davies in third place and
Hannah Davies in fourth. In the other group, Michelle Taylor took
second place. Jennifer Wallace took the silver medal in the senior
solo event and Gemma Frith was fourth. Sue O’Connor was third
in the adult event.
Hannah Davies, Louise Matthews and Adana Roberts teamed up to
finish second in the junior dance team contest. Becky Evans, Gemma Frith
and Jennifer Wallace took bronze medals in the senior competition.
Olivia Davies and Nikki Taylor were third when they paired up
for the junior duo dance event.
